More on American exceptionalism

American flag & eagleAs the slow but interminable drip feed of Wikileaks revelations continues, there has been a lot of coverage of American reaction to the release of diplomatic secrets. Some interesting pieces include this in The Economist, which was inspired by a piece in The New York Times here.

I wrote a historical piece on American exceptionalism on the books section of Politico.ie here. There is a video below explaining more about this idea, and there is a lot more on YouTube with debates on similar issues. There is a vigorous argument against American exceptionalism from The National Interest here which relates to this piece in The Washington Post. There is another Washington Post essay here worth reading. So there certainly has been a lot of discussion on this issue!
